Time for the next version of Rainmeter!
The latest version of Rainmeter will see many improvements, both for users of the application and for those creating and editing skins. Stay tuned every Sunday for the latest beta version. As always, Rainmeter 3.0 fully supports skins written for earlier versions, and users can simply upgrade their existing installations. There is no need to uninstall or change any existing setup to use the new beta version.
One major focus of the 3.0 release of Rainmeter will be a migration from an older graphics rendering method to newer and more powerful Direct2D API's. The initial goal will be vastly improved rendering and display of fonts in String meters.
This change is initially optional and opt-in, but we hope people will try it out and provide feedback and help with tracking down any issues. A Rainmeter Forum thread has been created to more fully explain the changes and track progress during the Rainmeter 3.0 beta cycle.

[cell class=spoiler]Rainmeter displays customizable skins, like memory and battery power, RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop. Many skins are even functional: they can record your notes and to-do lists, launch your favorite applications, and control your media player - all in a clean, unobtrusive interface that you can rearrange and customize to your liking. Rainmeter is at once an application and a toolkit. You are only limited by your imagination and creativity.[/cell]
