  • Ubuntu und BackTrack auf dem Samsung Galaxy S III

    Ein Android Gerät zu Besitzen heißt nicht automatisch das dieses Gerät dann auch nur mit Android läuft. Einige der Geräte sind in der Lage, Linux bis zu einem gewissen Grade auszuführen, dass ist immer gut, denn so hat der Nutzer mehrere Optionen. Wenn man dein Desktop OS auf einem Handy nutzt, bedeutet das meist eine ganze Ecke mehr an Features, die normalerweise nicht mit Android möglich wären. Und noch viel wichtiger, es macht einfach Spaß. Samsung Galaxy S III Nutzer können jetzt an dem Spaß teilhaben, denn sie können jetzt Ubuntu oder BackTrack auf ihren Gerät installieren.

    XDA Mitglied tiborr ist für das Tutorial verantwortlich, welches euch zeigt, wie man Linux installiert und zum Laufen bekommt. Einige Teile des Tutorials wurden von anderen Teilen kopiert – natürlich mit Credits – doch das Endresultat bleibt das selbe. Die Installation nimmt ein wenig Zeit in Anspruch und kann auch kompliziert werden, wenn man sich nicht damit auskennt Scripts auszuführen.

    Es gibt auch ein paar Eigenheiten dieses Projektes. Nutzer müssen einen Kernel finden, der “Loop Support” hat. Da das nicht so einfach zu finden ist in den meisten Kerneln, empfiehlt tiborr die Omega V4 Rom. Benötigt wird auch der Terminal Emulator und AndroidVNC. Wer dieses Tutorial wirklich befolgen möchte, sollte sicher gehen das er die ganzen Apps vorher schon installiert hat. Den es wird oft gewechselt während des Prozesses.

  • Ubuntu für das Galaxy Tab 10.1

    Hackern ist es gelungen Ubuntu neben Android auf dem Galaxy Tab 10.1 zu installieren.

    Dabei ersetzt die Linux-Distribution das installierte Android nicht, sondern läuft nebenbei in einer Chroot-Umgebung.

    Unter dem Namen Tabuntu haben Hacker eine Ubuntu-Variante auf dem Galaxy Tab 10.1 von Samsung installiert. Dabei ist das vorinstallierte Android nicht ersetzt worden.

    Stattdessen hatte sich die Linux-Distribution in einer Chroot-Umgebung eingenistet und wurde von dort aus gestartet.
    Vorraussetzung für die Installation war ein Root-Zugang zu Android. Nach der Installation standen unter Tabuntu auch native Linux-Anwendungen zur Verfügung.

    Nach der Installation von Busybox und des Grundsystems sowie dem Start der Ubuntu-Shell musste noch ein VNC-Server installiert werden,
    in dem später die grafische Benutzeroberfläche von Tabuntu gestartet wurde.
    Optional kann auch ein SSH-Zugang eingerichtet werden, berichten die Hacker. Der VNC-Server stellt die GUI dann entweder auf dem Tablet oder auf einem entfernten Rechner zur Verfügung.
    Tastatur und Maus können über Bluetooth angeschlossen werden.

    Trotz Zweikern-Prozessor im Galaxy Tab lief der Browser unter Ubuntu nur mäßig, berichten die Hacker auf ihrer Webseite.
    Sie hoffen auf die nächsten Tablet-Versionen mit Prozessoren mit einer Taktrate von 2 GHz. Derweil wollen sie Tabuntu weiter optimieren und beispielsweise unnötige Pakete entfernen.

    So ihr habt euch CM/AOKP oder PA auf euer Tab 2 geladen und wollt jetzt eines der unzähligen themes installieren, aber scheitert dran? kein Problem, ihr müsst nur in die build.prop und eure dpi auf 159 setzten, rebooten und Theme anwenden. Vergesst Bitte nicht eure dpi danach wieder auf 160 zu setzen.
