Another new build. Bunch more changes, fixes, and additions.

This is a prebuilt launcher not anything I can modify. There are Pixel2 launchers out there you can install if you want that. I dont like the search on the bottom which is why Im not including the P2 launcher.

New build up. Photos issue should be fixed as well as various other changes. Couple new features and a bunch of custom settings reorg.

Ill take a look. If its reproducible Ill look into fixing it.

Not sure what that means. Works fine for me. Not really interested in bug reporting either. Im sure Ive said that before.

Nope and not sure it will be, Its a very complex commit and very hard to add.

New build up....tons of other changes beyond NFC being fixed. I'd say features are about 75% done now.

I can confirm NFC works on Nitrogen....now to figure out why and get this working.

Update: Well, that didnt take long....NFC sorted for next build which will be up shortly.

Nevertheless....it doesnt work for me.

Be curious to see what fixed it. Nothing on their gits makes it work.

New build finally ready. Clean flash only. This was a complete redo of features so some are gone and many more are added. Im definitely not done adding them but this should be the majority so far. This is almost/basically a completely new build. Its noticeably faster than previous as well.

I had started all features over last week as I was hitting a wall. Progress was/is going well though I have been ill for the last 5 days. There will be a new test at some point though some of the largest, most difficult features (DUI, etc) havent been added back as of yet. In the long term this will be a much better result though.

Im using newest TWRP (3.2.1-0) without issue. My guess is this is something to do with being encrypted or some other stock Rom addition. I havent flashed a stock build on Shamu since I got it. This has to be some sort of permission issue thats keeping it from installing GApps. If you are encrypted, try reflashing stock (or 8.0 build) and then decrypt your data. make sure to back everything up as you will lose all of it.

And youve tried other GApps? No warnings or errors in TWRP when it installs?

Well, its definitely just your device. My guess is you have something set differently in TWRP or youre encrypted or something else is going on. Ive clean flashed at least 20 builds since my 1st 8.1 and never have any issues.

Do other 8.1 Roms work?

I would install TWRP and go straight to 8.1 using normal factory reset/wipe system clean flash procedure.

Not sure what NRT is but using the flashall.bat that comes with true factory images wipes and reformats EVERYTHING. You will need to reinstall recovery even.

Its obvious GApps are never being installed. The question is why.

Then there is something wrong with your partitions or installation of TWRP or something else. No idea.

If it were me, I would use fastboot to wipe and reformat everything including internal storage. I would probably flash full stock via flashall.bat and start completely fresh. Something is very wrong with your phone.
